Fall Apple Tree Nature Craft for Kids

We took our learning outside this week with The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree! After reading the story, we talked about how an apple tree changes throughout the four seasons—and then created our own nature-inspired apple trees.

I love incorporating nature into learning, especially when children can gather materials from the world around them!

Materials:

• The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons

•Nature journals or writing journal

•Sticks for the tree trunk

• Glue

• White paper or cardstock

•Finger paint

 Directions:

1. Read The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree and talk about how the tree changes in spring, summer, fall, and winter.

2. Have children collect small sticks to use as the tree trunk and branches.

3. Glue the sticks onto the paper.

4. Use fingerprints to paint leaves and apples onto the tree.

Extension: Have children draw and label the four seasons of an apple tree in their nature journals before creating their craft!

Such a simple way to combine read-aloud, science, nature, art, and hands-on learning all in one activity.
